Marble is simply a type of rock, however, this beautiful rock was formed over immense time and heat through the process of metamorphosis. Starting with its original composition of usually limestone, add intense pressure and heat on that base material re-crystallization occurs.
Marble varies in a large array of colors, the color and flow of the stone depends on the minerals in the mix. The minerals that result from impurities give marble a wide variety of colors. The purest calcite marble is white. Marble containing hematite has a reddish color. Marble that has limonite is yellow, and marble with serpentine is green. Pure white marble is the result of metamorphism of very pure limestones.
The characteristic swirls and veins of many colored marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand, iron oxides, or chert which were originally present as grains or layers in the limestone. These various impurities have been mobilized and recrystallized by the intense pressure and heat of the metamorphism.

There are two distinct reasons to choose granite for your kitchen or bathroom countertops:
Marble countertops can be a prized possession. It is amazing at resisting heat and known for its outstanding patterns. Marble requires some maintenance to secure its beauty and feel for the life of the install. Particularly, marble must be sealed properly after installation and re-sealed every two to three years. This will ensure that staining will not occur. Also, any spill should be cleaned immediately, especially ones involving acidic liquids.
Function – Marble is a softer stone than other countertop options. This can be a drawback in heavily used kitchen or bath areas. Because it is more easily scratched and etching can occur if acidic food spills are not cleaned quickly, careful consideration should be given on where and how the marble countertop will be used. Many people like the natural ageing or “patina” of marble and consider it a design advantage. Also, if wear is a concern, you can opt for a honed finish instead of polished which will help hide scratches or etching.
Aesthetics – Marble is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful stones you can use in your home. The whites in marble are brighter and more pure than any other natural stone and the patterns and swirls of color are unmatched anywhere else in nature. This gives marble a timeless look that can be used anywhere in the home to bring a subtle air of elegance to any room.
